Singapore Institute of Management: The Emphasis on Elevating Student Employability

In today’s fiercely competitive job market, fresh graduates need all the help they can get to stand out in the sea of resumes flooding recruiters’ inboxes. The Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) is acutely aware of this challenge and has taken proactive steps to empower its students with the skills and connections needed for career success. At the heart of SIM’s efforts are two annual career fairs that have become instrumental in shaping the employability landscape for its students.

DREAMS Career & Internship Fair: Making Success a Reality

February 2023 witnessed the return of the DREAMS Career & Internship Fair, which provided an invaluable platform for SIM students to connect with employers from diverse sectors, including Finance, Technology, Audit, Non-profit, Hospitality, and Communications. Renowned companies such as PwC, TikTok, L’oreal, Cognizant, SATS, and Sephora graced the event, offering students insights into various career possibilities.

The fair was not just about networking; it facilitated internship and entry-level job applications, a pivotal step in building a career. Many participating companies conducted on-the-spot interviews and extended offers to SIM students, providing them with a head start in their professional journeys.

For students interested in non-profit work, the fair featured charitable organizations, aligning with SIM’s commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers that benefit society.

IGNITE Career and Internship Fair: Sparking Ambitions

Scheduled for 29 September 2023, the IGNITE Career and Internship Fair is another milestone to note in the journey of SIM students toward employability. Over 50 employers from diverse industries, including Deloitte, HDB, and Uniqlo, will participate, offering students insights into careers in accounting, real estate, fashion, and more.

Similar to DREAMS, the IGNITE fair will provide students with the opportunity to engage directly with potential employers, learn about job openings, and understand the skills required for success in their chosen fields. This direct exposure is invaluable in helping students make informed decisions about their careers.

Networking is a key aspect of these events. Engaging with industry professionals not only provides insight into career paths but also helps students establish connections that may prove beneficial in the long run.

Value-adding to the International Student Experience

SIM’s career fairs are inclusive for all, benefitting international students like Ngo Vinh Khang from Vietnam and Vishakha Raj from India. Their experiences illustrate the significant value these events bring to both local and international students, emphasizing SIM’s impact on employability.

Khang and Vishakha’s success stories underscore the substantial value that SIM’s career fairs bring to both local and international students, offering them a launchpad to fulfil their career aspirations.

SIM’s Holistic Approach to Employability

While the two annual career fairs are instrumental in SIM’s employability support for students, the institute also offers a wide range of career development programs, workshops, and resources. These include resume-building workshops, interview preparation sessions, and career counseling services. Additionally, SIM collaborates with industry leaders to ensure that its curriculum remains aligned with the evolving demands of the job market.

In conclusion, the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) is dedicated to enhancing the employability of its students through a myriad of events and services. The DREAMS Career & Internship Fair and the upcoming IGNITE Career and Internship Fair serve as critical platforms for students to network with employers, explore diverse career paths, and gain practical insights into their chosen industries. Coupled with SIM’s comprehensive career development programs, these events equip students with the skills and connections necessary to excel in their careers. SIM’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering employability empowers its students to achieve their aspirations in a brutally competitive job market.
