Our Learning Development department is your squad of academic superheroes, ready to arm you with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive.
Here you can participate in academic writing workshops to learn how to write better reports, essays, and literature reviews. Academic writing has its own set of rules and practices that are different from personal writing and is a totally different skill! This includes referencing, avoiding plagiarism, etc, which will all be important in your coursework.
PAL Programme: Your Key to Collaboration and Comprehension
Say hello to our Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) programme— a free student-to-student support network led by seasoned PAL Leaders who are senior students. PAL Leaders are selected as they excelled in specific subjects and are subsequently trained as PAL facilitators.
Chelsea Callista, one of our PAL Leaders, recently shared her enriching experience with the PAL program. She highlighted how her guidance significantly helped students improve their academic performance, leading to higher grades. As an international student herself, Chelsea expressed gratitude for the opportunity to assist her fellow students and was particularly moved by the heartfelt thanks she received from the students she helped. If you are looking for a peer-led group study in small groups of up to 20, join us for 1 hour each week and engage in lively discussions to enhance your understanding of your subjects.
Personal & Study Skills Workshops
At the Student Learning Centre, you can find workshops on critical thinking, making powerful presentations, speed learning, and visual tools, to make your studying more effective. These skills will greatly push your success in your academic journey.
Student Learning Centre is conveniently located at SIM Headquarters, Block A, Level 5 (A.5.01B). Visit us during the operating hours of Mon to Fri, 11 am to 5 pm. No appointments are needed and you can drop in at the Centre anytime during opening hours for a short
consultation. If you require a longer session, you can make separate appointments to see our Advisors.
