How I Plan to Achieve My Ultimate Dream of Working Overseas

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been dreaming about working abroad and I’m determined to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Besides applying for exchange programmes through SIM GE’s Office of Global Learning, I’ve been thinking about how to improve my chances of scoring a job overseas after graduation. Yes, that’s only going to happen two years down the road, but hey, it never hurts to plan early right?

One option I’m seriously considering is to study for a Master’s programme. Specifically, a Master’s in International Business programme. What? Study more? I can already hear all the questions. Let me explain the reasons why.

  1. It will give me an international perspective
As more businesses expand out of their home countries, they will need the right talent to help them grow. Having an international perspective on economic and business climates upon graduating from the programme, as well as knowledge on cultural and ethical issues will definitely come in handy.
  2. It may open more career doors around the world
The programme’s modules and assignments cover different aspects of business, like marketing, financial consulting and compliance. This will give me a valuable understanding of how various business units work together and help me craft better strategies, no matter which area I choose to specialise in or which country I choose to work in.
  3. It will feed my ambition
Right now, I’m considering the Masters in International Business programme offered either by Grenoble Ecole de Management or University of Birmingham. Besides having academic staff who are all experts in their respective fields, both institutions are triple accredited – AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS – which is a prestigious honour accorded only to the world’s best business schools. Adding to that, University of Birmingham is also the third most frequently targeted university* among UK’s top employers.

Call me ambitious, but I especially like that both schools will give me access to company visits, professional development workshops and of course, networking opportunities! Already, SIM-Grenoble students have visited companies like Bloomberg and saw how decision makers network for information and ideas.
