At the recent Student Leaders’ Awards and Appreciation Night event which recognised the contribution of various student leaders, Kyi Sin Thin Wai Wai (Ivonne) from the SIM IT Club expressed that the biggest learning she has gained from SIM IT Club would be project management and collaborating with external companies for partnerships and sponsorships. This valuable experience has significantly improved her communication and leadership skills in a way no classroom lesson can achieve.

Time Management and Responsibility Skills

Balancing academic and CCA commitments teaches crucial time management. Leading a CCA involves prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, managing resources efficiently, and preparing students for future career demands.

Shaping Campus Culture

Student leaders significantly influence campus culture at SIM by organizing activities that promote inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement, creating a supportive and dynamic environment for all. As a student leader in the SIM Myanmar Community, May Nadi shared that she had the opportunity to host a cultural event that shares the uniqueness of Myanmar culture and food to her friends. Such experiences make for a fruitful student life on-campus, especially for international students.

Personal Development

Leadership in CCAs contributes to personal growth, boosting confidence, interpersonal skills, and a sense of purpose, essential for academic success and overall well-being. Giovannya Auriel Santoso – the recipient of the Excellence Award in Peer Mentoring – discovered that not only was she learning to support herself better as a university peer mentor, but she managed to equip herself with skills to help others around her to achieve better well-being too.

SIM Global Education offers a wide array of CCAs to suit various interests and passions, including:

  • SIM International Affairs Society: Focuses on global awareness and international relations between clubs such as Myanmar Community (MY-SIM), International Multicultural Mix (IMMIX), and Vietnamese Community (SIMVNC).
  • Eco-SIM: Connects students with environmental initiatives.
  • Cultural Clubs: Promote cultural exchange and diversity.
  • Sports Teams: Enhance teamwork, leadership, and physical fitness. Some of these sports clubs support interests in Dragon Boating, Fencing, Judo, and Silat.
At SIM Global Education, CCAs are integral to student development, providing opportunities to enhance leadership skills, contribute to campus life, and prepare for future success. With a wide range of 80 CCAs to choose from, SIM encourages students to engage in and embrace leadership roles. The Student Development (SDEV) team in SIM are supportive and consistently ready to assist students, ensuring that their growth and development outside of school activities is an enriching experience by providing indispensable assistance in areas such as finance and logistics.
